MOSCOW OPEN 2015

News

[March 13, 2015] Alexey Titov

Последние новости и судейский комитет Moscow Open 2015.

The Open Team Championship of Russian Federation will be played on the secondday of Moscow Open 2015.

This year the organizing committee of MO-2015 decided to conduct a team tournament on the second day of the weekend, after the play-off of the Moscow Open 2015. This unusual decision raised a discussion among participants. The leader of the organizing committee of Moscow Open 2015 Alexey Titov comments:

- Yes, I can easily understand the discontent of the top players, who do not like joining of two tournaments in one weekend. Especially taking into account the high statute of the Moscow Open 2015 tournament. But we had several reasons for such a decision. First, noone says this merger will be forever: this year may be described as an experiment. Such "joint" tournaments become quite common for Saint-Petersburg, this year we decided to try too. Second, we should consider economy situation in Russia now. Merger of two big tournaments in one weekend is to some extent a compulsory measure.

Third, the suggested formula easily fits one playing day even with some spare tilme. We would not sacrifice the "long" play-off for Moscow Open, just some stages would be conduct on the first day' evening. And the spare time from the team tournament would be used for the decisive part of the play-off, starting from the quarterfinals, on March 15th in the morning. Here we have one more reason: we always try to find new ways to attract spectators to the final stages of the play-off and final series. We would not uncover a secret if we say that such spectators are usually players defeated on the previous stages, their friends and relatives. Main part of defeated players usually depart from the playing hall immediately after their games, leaving the finalists without adequate fan's support and feastive atmosphere.

Conducting the team tournament on the second day we hope to see more spectators on the decisive stages of the Moscow Open 2015, including finals, at least of the players that would come to the hall to participate in the team tournament. We consider correction of the second day's schedule to start the play-off series not too early. This decision will be announced in the nearest future.

Finally: this year there is no World Club Championshipin the ITHF international calendar; so why should not best club teams from different countries participate in Open Team Championship of Russia? This could introduce diversity into Russian team tournament, and would provide a possibility for the best players of the planet that are going to take part in Moscow Open 2015 to participate also in an interesting team tournament.

The regulations and formula of the OTCh of RF is already published on the official site of Moscow Open 2015. There are some rules that will limit formation of top-teams for a single tournament. At the same time, it is obvious that not all clubs can bring their best squads to Moscow, so we allow partcipation of teams without a club registration in the ITHF World Ranking, if the integral ranking of the team does not exceed a certain level that could allow these teams to interfere in the struggle of the real clubs for the winner' title.

Official press-release of Moscow Open 2015.

Moscow Open 2015 is the 15th international tournament in the capital of Russia.

Moscow Cup is an elite tournament of the "Big-Six", held in Moscow strating from 2001. Until 2012 this part of WTHT had a name of Moscow Cup, but from 2013 the tournament got a new name, new logo, new concept of performance, and now is held under the sign of "Moscow Open". This year the World Tour tournaments division was changed, and instead of "Big Six" series, where Moscow Open and Moscow Cup belonged together with five more tournaments in different countries (Latvia, Sweden, Czech Republik, Finland and Norway), three new degrees were introduced.

Moscow Open, as it was expected, joined three other strongest and most prestigeous tournaments in the new "Super Series".

The main priority of the organizing committee of the Moscow Open 2015 is high-level organization of the tournament with precise sticking to the time schedule and all the rules and regulations of ITHF. Moscow Open considers table hockey as a professional sports with all appropriate attributes: high-quality preparation of the games, prize money, coverage in all main sports TV channels and other mass-media. Taking into account new reality, some principles of Moscow Open conduct would be reconsidered, for example, more effort would be done to advertise the tournament and attract new participants.

Moscow Open is a unique opportunity to participate in one tournament both for best table hockey players, leaders of the World Ranking, and for the novice players making their first steps in the sport.

Moscow Open 2015 will be held in two days, March 14-15, in a modern sports complex in the South-West Moscow. The hall already hosted Moscow Open 2013 and 2014, as well as some of the stages of the Russian Championships, and provides good illumination and air-conditioning. The sports complex provides comfortable locking rooms and shower rooms.

At the moment the main contours of the tournaments in March 2015 are decided:

- the venue - Moscow, Pokryshkina street 3, building 3, the sports complex of South-Western district of Moscow.

- the tournament formula:

1st day - qualification groups (best 16 participants by World Ranking are free of qualification), final groups (top 16 players participate) and leagues, first play-off series.
2nd day - final play-off series, starting from quarterfinals. After play-off of the Moscow Open 2015 the Open Teams Championships of Russia will be held.

- all participants will get souvenirs and diplomas with Moscow Open 2015 logo.

Registration for Moscow Open 2015 will be open 1.5 month before the tournament, from February 1st 2015. The registration form would be published on the corresponding page of the official Moscow Open 2015 site.

We recommend to follow the news page, where all updates on the detail of Moscow Open conduct would be published, including information on accommodation in the "Astrus" hotel close to the venue with special "partner" prices, on booking inexpensive lunch in a restaurant near the sports complex, and many other.
